Tis' the Season of New Beginnings & Back to School Pics!

As millions of kids prepare to head back to school in the coming weeks, countless parents will be capturing this special milestone with the cherished "First Day of School" photo!

Whether your child is proudly holding a chalkboard full of facts, posing in the same spot since kindergarten, or looking a bit annoyed and urging you to wrap it up, you’ll be thankful you documented this important moment in their life.

You can make all these great photos easy to find and share by creating a "1st Day of School" album! This can also be a great way to look back over the years if you're the sentimental type like me! 

Just last week, my twins started their first year of high school, and we moved our oldest back to college down in Arizona. Needless to say, it was an emotional week but looking back at years' worth of first day pics I was reminded of the importance of living in the moment with my boys because it all goes by too quickly!

How to Create a First Day of School Album:

iPhone/Apple Photos:

1. Open the Apple Photos app from your phone 
2. Click "ALBUMS" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
3. Click the "+" sign in the top left corner
4. Select "New Album"
5. Give your album a title such as "1st Day of School"
6. Click "SAVE"
7. Select this year's first day photos
8. Click "Add" in the top right corner
9. To add previous years' photos, open your album back up
10. Click the "+" sign in the gray box at the bottom of your pictures in this album
11. In the search bar at the top of your screen, type "August" or whenever your kids/grandkids' first day of school is
12. Scroll through your pictures to find old 1st day of school pictures
13. Click on those photos and then click "Add" in the top right corner

Android/Google Photos: 

If you have already been creating albums, you will notice the steps below are new based on a recent update to Google Photos.  

1. Open the Google Photos app from your phone 
2. Click "COLLECTIONS" at the bottom of your screen
3. Click "Albums"
4. Click the "+" sign in the top right corner to create a new album
5. Give your album a title such as "1st Day of School"
6. Click "DONE" in the bottom left corner
7. Click "SELECT PHOTOS"
8. Select this year's first day photos
9. Click "Add" in the top right corner
10. To add previous years' photos, select the "Add photos" button under your album title
11. In the search bar at the top of your screen, type "August" or whenever your kids/grandkids' first day of school is
12. Scroll through your pictures to find old 1st day of school pictures
13. Click on those photos and then click "Add" in the top right corner

Moving forward, all it takes is a few clicks to add future first day pics! And if you want to quickly find and share these photos, simply open your albums and your photos will be nicely organized all in one place!
