How This Week's Heartbreaking News Can Inspire Action

emergency preparedness home inventory video tips Oct 08, 2024

This week's news has been filled with story after story of devastation from Hurricane Helene. And with Milton close behind, there is no doubt millions of families and communities, just like mine and yours, will be facing unimaginable loss and an impossible road to recovery and rebuilding.

It’s easy to think, “That’s so sad but it would never happen to me.” But ask anyone who has faced, or is currently facing loss, and they will tell you they thought the exact same thing!

Changes in our weather and the influx of these hundred year storms across our country serve as a stark reminder that WE ARE ALL AT RISK and would benefit from preparing our homes and families for the unexpected!

So regardless of where you live or what weather might come your way, you can take action with something as small as a home inventory. By taking just 10 minutes to record your home you will have a record of your belongings that could be life-changing in the event you ever experience loss or damage to your home and have to file a claim with your insurance company!

Tips for Taking a Quick Video Home Inventory:

  • Using the video feature on your smartphone camera, quickly walk through your home and record what you see on the surface of each room. This could take as little as 10 minutes.
  • If you have time, partner with someone to open cabinets and closets to record additional items.
  • Organize your videos in an album so they are easy to find and share if and when you need them down the road!

And if you're lucky enough to have a little bit more time, check out our online emergency preparedness classes that will walk you step-by-step through the process of preparing your home and family so you have peace of mind knowing you've done all you can to protect the people and things that matter most!
