Is Your Storage Full? ⚠️
Oct 22, 2024We have been taking digital pictures since smartphones became popular in the the late 2000s. By default, most of us are running out of the free storage we were allotted over twenty years ago.
You might not even know you're running out of storage until you go to take a picture and get an alert that says your phone is full. This can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you're trying to capture a special moment.
You might think you can free up storage by cleaning up your photo stream but this can be incredibly time-consuming and within a few days or weeks, you will probably end up right back where you started... with an alert that says your "storage is full."
So if you plan on taking more and more pictures in the future, you may as well add extra storage now for just a few dollars a month. This can save you time and stress in the long run!
Apple Photos:
- You get 5GB of free storage
- You can upgrade for $0.99/month which will give you 50 GB of storage
- Depending on your photo use, this amount of storage could last you years
How to upgrade:
- Go to the Settings app on your iPhone and click on your name at the top of the screen
- Click iCloud, then click Manage Account Storage or Manage Storage
- Click buy More Storage or Change Storage Plan
- Choose a plan and follow the onscreen instructions
Google Photos:
- You get 15GB of free storage which includes photos, Gmail and Google Drive
- You can upgrade for $1.99/month which will give you 100 GB of storage
- Depending on your photo use, this amount of storage could last you years
How to upgrade:
- Open Google Photos from your phone
- Click your profile in the top right corner of your screen (it will likely be the first letter of your name or a photo of you)
- Select "Manage storage" under Account Storage
