Albums Need Organizing Too!
Jan 16, 2024The best way to make sure you can quickly find your pictures is to create digital photo albums. All it takes is a few clicks and then, instead of endlessly scrolling through your cluttered photo stream, you can simply open your albums and your pictures are right there, nice and organized!
Whether you've made a habit of creating albums or only have a few, it's important to spend just a little bit of time getting them cleaned up and organized a few times a year with these simple steps below!
TIP #1: DELETE ALBUMS
You might have old albums, empty albums or albums you created for a temporary project. You might have albums someone shared with you that you no longer need or want access to. Deleting these albums is just one more way to ensure your favorite photos are organized, making them easy to find and share!
- Open the Apple Photos app from your phone
- Click "Albums" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
- Click the blue "See All" button next to "My Albums" in the top right corner
- Click "Edit" in the top right corner
- Scroll through your albums and click the red circle in the top left corner of any album you want to delete
- When you get the pop up asking if you want to delete that album, click "Delete"
- This will delete the album, but it will NOT delete your pictures! You will still be able to access all of those pictures in your photo stream.
- When you are finished deleting albums, click "Done" in the top right corner
Important Note About SharedAlbums:
Repeat the steps above for your "Shared Albums" but make sure you have saved the pictures to your phone first. If you delete an album someone has shared with you without taking this step, you will not have access to their photos anymore.
- Open the Google Photos app from your phone
- Click "Library" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
- Scroll through your albums and open any one you want to delete
- Click the circle with 3 dots in the top right corner
- Select "Delete album" from the menu
- This will delete the album, but it will NOT delete your pictures! You will still be able to access all of those pictures in your photo stream.
Important Note About Shared Albums:
If you delete an album someone else created and shared with you, make sure you have saved the pictures to your phone first. If you delete a shared album without taking this step, you will not have access to their photos anymore.
TIP #2: ALPHABETIZE YOUR ALBUMS
Typically, your albums will show up in the order you created them. However, you can organize them in alphabetical order, making them so much easier to navigate, especially as you continue creating more and more albums over time!
- Open Apple Photos from your COMPUTER (As of now, Apple does not allow you do do this from your phone)
- Right click on "My Albums" from the menu on the right
- Select "Sort"
- Select "By Name"
- Your albums will now be in alphabetical and numerical order making them incredibly easy to navigate from your computer, phone or iPad
GOOGLE PHOTOS
- Open Google Photos from your phone
- Click "Library" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
- Below the "Utilities" and "Trash" menu at the top, you will see a blue button that says either "Album title," "Most recent photo" or "Last modified." Click on that blue button.
- Select "Album title" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
- Your albums will now be in alphabetical and numerical order making them incredibly easy to navigate from your computer, phone or iPad
I hope you're staying safe and warm with these frigid temperatures!
All the best,
Melissa
